I spend a lot of time thinking about change. What inspires people to make changes in their lives? What stands in their way? How do we know when it is time for change? How do we as a society value and make meaning from the changes happening all around us? How does an ever-changing world both open and limit possibilities?
As a long-time therapist in both community and private practice settings, it is these questions that have guided me as I expand my therapeutic lens to allow me to lean into my passion for entrepreneurship and make space for more creativity and ingenuity in my life. These questions have also landed me – very intentionally – in the coaching sphere.
….so what does this all mean?
My therapy practice is rooted in trauma informed theory, an understanding of how our nervous systems evolve through our early childhood attachment relationships, and how we learn to regulate them – or not. The early life shaping of our nervous systems impacts the way we make meaning of our experiences, and thus impacts the forces that drive our choices and impacts our ability to foster a relationship with our bodies and their innate wisdom. In my coaching practice, I expand on this foundation in a collaborative, co-created and reflective process that encourages and empowers individuals to look at themselves differently – with curiosity and honesty – in the hopes of shifting familiar patterns in the pursuit of change in the present and for the future, all while navigating the complexities of the systems and relationships that frame our lives.
…so who am I anyway…
I am the owner and Clinical Director of Shoreline Counselling, a large and ever-growing group private practice based in Vancouver and Fort Langley. In addition to carrying a small caseload of therapy clients, I work as a business and leadership consultant with small service-oriented businesses and not-for profit organizations. As a coach, I challenge and guide individual clients and organizations as they change and grow towards finding more clarity around, and achieving, their present and future goals while striving to meet the shifting demands of our world.
I have a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology from UBC and am currently enrolled as a learner coach in UBC’s Organizational Coaching Certification, an International Coaching Federation’s accredited program.
I have clinical training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). In 2019, I completed 2 years of training in a relationally oriented somatic attachment focused trauma therapy with Dr. Lisa Mortimore’s Bringing the Body into Practice (BBP) and will be completing her advanced BBP training in in 2022.
…So, if you’ve landed here, I imagine you are already in a change process, one that may need some skilled support to give you the autonomy, clarity and drive to pursue the next chapter of your life…so…what comes next and what is standing in your way?
